Elle adorait me raconter ses histoires.
Au début, elle était un peu triste lorsque je suis partie loin d’elle. Mais elle a vite compris qu’en fait ça ne dérangeait pas qu’elle puisse continuer à me les raconter. Elle m’envoyait des tas de messages à n’importe quel moment. Même si je lui donnais des réponses tardives, elle s’en moquait. Avec ou sans mes réponses, cette communication non réciproque continuait. Comme un diariste, Jina Kim livre des micros-évènements – ces presque riens à la base de nos existences. Ses photographies et vidéos captées au plus proche de son vécu procèdent d’une constante désublimation de l’image pour restituer la fragilité de l’intime.

Jina Kim explores the cinematic and literary worlds through her videos and photographs, which are embodied somewhere, between the sentences of others and her own writings. The textual report at the core of her work establishes a narrative form through which she seeks to capture fleeting moments.
She enjoys tracing seemingly trivial, everyday moments that emerge during interactions between real individuals. While her writing is imbued with solitude, it is the connection with others and the process of individual self-construction that unites the beings she strives to grasp. This approach allows her to travel through time, share intimate experiences, and grow through the exchanges she fosters with others, ultimately leading to reflections on one’s own existence and what we carry within ourselves.
Jina Kim’s recent works are grounded in her five years of experience at a research center affiliated with the French Ministry of Ecological Transition. This period marked an expansion of her storytelling approach through encounters and observations involving non-human entities. Inspired by her exchanges with engineers developing infrastructures to balance relationships between humans and ecosystems, she delves into what it means for humanity to coexist with the non-human.
